2016 Cumberland Gap Quarter Coin - P or D Mint - (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Released on 4/4/2016.
  • The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
  • The reverse of the coin shows the great break in the Appalachian Mountains with a frontiersman looking through to the West.
  • The 5 National Parks Released in 2016 were Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and Fort Moultrie (Fort Sumter) National Monument in South Carolina.
  • Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.

The Cumberland Gap, established June 11, 1940 is 20,508 acres and borders Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Known as the "First Doorway To The West", many American settlers used this route to move West. Buffalo and wild deer also used this route to migrate south for winters and back north for summers. The natural beauty of the Cumberland Gap surrounds a 20th Century Kentucky Mountain settlement that was known as the Hensley Settlement which has been preserved by park services. Tours are offered through the Gap Cave and Hensley Settlement. Other activities include lifestyle demonstrations of settlers, music festivals and living history events.

Select either 'P' - Philadelphia Mint, or 'D' - Denver Mint from the drop-down options menu located above.

All coins come in protective plastic. Orders of 40 or more may ship in tubes.
