COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Released on 6/1/2010.
- The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
- The reverse of the Yellowstone National Park Quarter shows a bison standing in front of the park's most famous geyser, "Old Faithful."
- The 5 National Parks Released in 2010 were Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.
- Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.
Yellowstone became the first National Park in the world when it was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. The park is located primarily in Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho, as well. Yellowstone is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, most notably the Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular attractions in the park.
