PRODUCT DETAILS:

2013 Fort McHenry Quarter Coin - P or D Mint - (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Released on 8/26/2013.
  • The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
  • The reverse design on this coin depicts Fort McHenry during a "Defenders Day" celebration, which is an annual event and shows fireworks which symbolize the "rocket's red glare" from the Star Spangled Banner.
  • The 5 National Parks Released in 2013 were White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial in Ohio, Great Basin National Park in Nevada, Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Maryland, and Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota.
  • Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.

The Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is located in Maryland and is the birthplace of our country's national anthem, and was named for James McHenry, our Nation's second Secretary of War. In September of 1814 British forces bombarded Fort McHenry. Francis Scott Key who was a poet and lawyer witnessed the attack and upon seeing his country's flag still flying over the fort after the attack, was moved to write "The Star Spangled Banner."

Select either 'P' - Philadelphia Mint, or 'D' - Denver Mint from the drop-down options menu located above.
