PRODUCT DETAILS:
2000 Massachusetts State Quarter Coin - P or D Mint - (UNC) Brilliant UncirculatedÂ
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Released on 1/3/2000.Â
- The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.Â
- The reverse of the Massachusetts Quarter Dollar depicts "The Minute Man," a famous statue at The Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord, Massachusetts, over an outline of the state and the inscription "The Bay State."
- The Minuteman statue, located in Minute Man National Historical Park, was erected by Daniel Chester French in 1875. Â The statue is located at the North Bridge section of the park and it was at this location that colonial commanders first ordered the militia men to fire back at the British. Â An act later immortalized by Ralph Waldo Emerson who dubbed this act as "the shot heard round the world". Â The Minute Man statue is believed to be sculpted in the likeness of the typical minute man soldier of 1775. Â Â
- The Massachusetts State Quarter was released in 2000 along with the Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire and Virginia State Quarters. Â
- Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.Â
