The Mercury Dime was minted from 1916-1945. Though these coins have long been referred to as Mercury Dimes, the design is not actually that of the mythical Roman god Mercury, but rather that of a winged headed Liberty.
Like many coins of the period, the strike quality can vary on Mercury Dimes. Fully struck examples such as these will have the center bands on the reverse fasces completely separated. This is referred to as "Full Split Bands" and can be abbreviated as "FB," "SB," or "FSB." Some dates, including otherwise common dates, can be extremely rare with Full Bands.
