COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Released on 6/8/2015.
- The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
- The reverse of the coin shows the state flower in the foreground of an image of a section of roadway leading into one of the mountainside tunnels.
- The 5 National Parks Released in 2015 were Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska, Kisatchie National Park in Louisiana, Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware, and Saratoga National Historical Park in New York.
- Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.
The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469.1 miles from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia through the Smoky Mountains and into the High Country of North Carolina. It runs over 120 miles through the High Country boasting many natural wonders and historic towns. The headquarters is located in Asheville, NC which is a city well known by literary figures including Thomas Wolfe and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The Blue Ridge Parkway's most popular activity is camping, but also offers many developed sites along the way including Cumberland Knob, Linn Cove Viaduct, Craggy Gardens, Mount Pisgah, Waterrock Knob and much more. Many views of the Southern Appalachia's are seen from the Parkway and 2015 marks the 150 year anniversary of the Last Shot East of the Mississippi ending the Civil War.
