Though well known to numismatists, few people outside the coin collecting community have ever heard of these coins! Like its cousins the Two Cent Piece and Three Cent Silver Coins, the Three Cent Nickel was a relatively short lived series. It was only struck between 1865 and 1889, with few coins from the mid 1870's on actually reaching circulation.
