1999 Pennsylvania State Quarter Coin - P or D Mint - (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Released on 3/8/1999.
- The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
- The reverse of the Pennsylvania Quarter Dollar features an outline of the state along with images of the "Commonwealth" and a keystone. The state's motto "Virtue, Liberty, Independence" is also inscribed on the reverse.
- The Commonwealth is a statue located atop the dome of the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The 14 foot creation stands upon a globe and hols a staff, to symbolize justice, in its left hand. This Pennsylvania treasure was sculpted in 1905 by Roland Hinton Perry and it is believed that his inspiration for the statue was Letitia Penn, the daughter of William Penn.
- The Pennsylvania State Quarter was released in 1999 along with the Delaware, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut State Quarters.
- Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.
