1893 Columbian Exposition Commemorative Half Dollars - BU
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sold during the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
- The obverse shows a bust of Columbus along with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "COLUMBIAN HALF DOLLAR."
- The reverse features Columbus' flagship, the Santa Maria along with two hemispheres below. Also on the reverse are the words "WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION CHICAGO" along with the coin's date.
- Each coin is in Brilliant UNC condition.
These coins were sold for $1.00 each at the World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago during 1893. The exposition was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. Many of the coins went unsold and were placed in circulation at face value, making uncirculated examples such as these very scarce!
