• The obverse features a portrait of Braille along with the words “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” “Louis Braille” and the dates “1809” and “2009”. 
• The reverse features a child sitting at a desk reading a Braille book. Behind him is a bookcase with the word "Independence" on it. Other Inscriptions include “United States of America,” “E Pluribus Unum,” and “One Dollar”. The letters "BRL" (abbreviation for Braille) are spelled out in Braille above the boy.
• Sovereign coin backed by the United States government with a face value of $1.00 (USD).
