Most 1878 Morgan Silver Dollars were struck with the eagle on the coin's reverse featuring a concave breast and the top arrow feather being parallel to the rest. In 1879, the design was changed to feature a slanted top arrow feather, and a more convex breast. Some of the 1878 issues were struck with this new reverse design and are quite scarce!
The Morgan Silver Dollar is the world's most popular Silver Dollar. They are cherished by both investors and collectors alike not just for their historical appeal, but also because so many were minted over the years and entered into circulation, that those years with lower mintages or higher graded specimens can be very valuable!
