PRODUCT DETAILS:

2018 Cumberland Island Quarter Coin - S Mint - (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Released on 8/27/2018.
  • Though these San Francisco Mint quarters were struck as Business Strikes, none were released for circulation, ensuring their desirability for years to come!
  • The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
  • The reverse features a small white heron, known as the Snowy Egret, with its wings spread ready to take flight, along with a salt marsh in the background. Inscriptions include “Cumberland Island,” “Georgia,” “2018,” and “E Pluribus Unum.”
  • The 5 National Parks Released in 2018 were Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin, Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota, Cumberland Island Seashore in Georgia, and Block Island National Wildlife Refuge in Rhode Island.
  • Sovereign coins minted at the San Francisco Branch of the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government, each with a face value of $0.25. The America the Beautiful Quarter Program began in 2010, but Uncirculated Quarters were not minted at San Francisco until 2012.

Cumberland Island is part of the State of Georgia and is 17.5 miles long consisting of over 36,000 acres. Home to many plants and animals, its landscape is made of beaches, maritime forests, marshes, mudflats, and tidal creeks. It became a National Seashore Park in 1972. In its past, the island was home to many members of the Carnegie Family who built a large estate as well as smaller estates throughout the island. Prior to that, it was home to native islanders, Spanish settlers, and cotton plantation farmers and slaves and has an interesting history. Several private homes still remain, as well as some that are part of the National Park Service and are open to the public for tours, including Plum Orchard and the remains of Dungeness. There is also the Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum and the Ice house Museum, as well as walking trails for tourists to enjoy. The island is accessible by ferry.

All coins come in protective plastic. Orders of 40 or more may ship in tubes.
