1922-D Peace Silver Dollar Coin - Borderline Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Peace Dollar is what came as the result of a competition to find a design that was symbolic of the peace following World War I.
  • The obverse features an image of Lady Liberty, modeled after Teresa de Francisci. She wears a crown as her hair blows in the wind, while the coin's year of mintage lies beneath her, and the word "LIBERTY" above her. You'll also find the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the front of the coin.
  • The reverse design shows a Bald Eagle at rest, clutching onto an olive branch. Beneath it is the word "PEACE" and above it the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." You can also find the coin's face value on the back.
  • Mintage of 15,063,000 coins.
  • Contains .7734 oz of 90% Silver.
  • Struck at the Denver Mint.
  • All coins grade AU-58.

Peace Dollars were issued yearly from 1921 until 1928, but when the financial markets crashed in 1929, production was ceased. In 1934, with the economy beginning to recover, Peace Silver Dollars were again produced for circulation. In 1935 however, the U.S. Mint again stopped production, this time for good.

The Peace Dollar was designed by Anthony de Francisci and the coins were struck at all three mints, though Philadelphia was the only mint to issue them for the entire series run.
