United States Large Cents are one of the classic series of U.S. coins. Issued from 1793 to 1857, the series saw several minor design changes. These include the Flowing Hair-Chain Reverse (1793), Flowing Hair-Wreath Reverse (1793), Liberty Cap (1793-94), Draped Bust (1796-1807), Classic Head (1808-14), Coronet Head (1816-1839) and the Braided Hair Type (1840-57). All Large Cents were struck at the Philadelphia mint, and while there are many easily collectible dates of Large Cents, rarities do exist (though unfortunately none are included in the group offered here). The 1793 types, 1799 and 1804 are quite rare.

The main standard for grading these coins is the center of the obverse in the area of Liberty's ear. For example, to be considered Fine, the ear must be clear and the hair just above will start to show some good detail, though won't necessarily be sharp. The leaves on the reverse will also show some separation.
