PRODUCT DETAILS:

2020-W National Park of American Samoa Quarter Coin - W Mint (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Released on 2/3/2020.
  • West Point quarters were released in 2019 as a way to generate interest from collectors.  They are not sold directly to the public but need to be found by searching bags released to banks.
  • The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
  • The reverse features a Samoan fruit bat and her young pup. Other details of the reverse include the inscriptions "NATIONAL PARK," “AMERICAN SAMOA,” “2020” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
  • The 5 National Parks scheduled for release in 2020 are National Park of American Samoa in American Samoa, Weird Farm National Historical Site in Connecticut, Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park in Vermont, and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas.
  • Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.

All coins come in protective plastic. Orders of 40 or more may ship in tubes.

The National Park of American Samoa spans across 13,500 acres on 3 islands -Tutuila, Ta’ū, and Ofu. It is one of the most remote parks in the National Park System and includes land, ocean waters, and coral reefs. Found soaring around the island and hanging from fruit trees, is the Samoan Fruit Bat, seen on the coins reverse. With a wing span of up to 3 ft, and both nocturnal and diurnal tendencies, they are easy to spot. If you visit the park in the late Spring or Summer, you will probably see young pups still attached to their mothers.
