PRODUCT DETAILS:

2016 Fort Moultrie Quarter Coin - S Mint - (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Released on 11/14/2016.
  • The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
  • The reverse depicts Sergeant William Jasper when he returned the regimental flag whilst being under attack from a British ship to the ramparts.
  • The 5 National Parks Released in 2016 were Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and Fort Moultrie (Fort Sumter) National Monument in South Carolina.
  • Sovereign coins minted at the San Francisco Branch of the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government, each with a face value of $0.25. The America the Beautiful Quarter Program began in 2010, but Uncirculated Quarters were not minted at San Francisco until 2012.

Fort Moultrie is the first fort on Sullivan’s island that was built to protect Charleston, South Carolina. Fort Moultrie was named so in honor of Commander Colonel William Moultrie, who led the nine hour battle that protected Charleston from British occupation. To date Fort Moultrie has been restored to be able to portray those major points in history that took place on the grounds during and after the American Revolution.

All coins come in protective plastic. Orders of 40 or more may ship in tubes.
