• The reverse of the coin depicts Fort McHenry during the annual "Defenders Day" celebration and shows fireworks symbolizing the "rocket's red glare" from the Star Spangled Banner. You'll also find the motto "E Pluribus Unum" on the reverse of the coin, its year of release, as well as the name of the park and the name of the state in which it resides.

The Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine located in Maryland is the birthplace of our country's national anthem, and was named for James McHenry, our Nation's second Secretary of War. In September of 1814, British forces bombarded Fort McHenry. Francis Scott Key, a poet and lawyer, witnessed the attack. Upon seeing his country's flag still flying over the fort after the attack was moved to write "The Star Spangled Banner."
