COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Released on 7/26/2010.
- The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
- The reverse of the Yosemite National Park quarter depicts "El Capitan" the famous vertical rock formation within the park, soaring nearly 3,000 feet straight into the air.
- The 5 National Parks Released in 2010 were Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.
- Sovereign coin minted at the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government with a face value of $0.25.
Yosemite was one of the first wilderness parks in the U.S. and is best known for its water falls. The park covers an area of 761,268 acres and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain. Over 3.7 million people visit Yosemite each year.
