PRODUCT DETAILS:

1800's Seated Liberty Silver Quarter Coin - Random Dates - Fine

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Dates ranging from 1838-1891.
  • The seated quarters offered here are in full fine condition. The main standard for grading these (and most other seated coinage) in circulated condition is the word "LIBERTY" on the shield located, on the obverse. To be considered fine, the word "LIBERTY" must be complete, though not necessarily sharp.

Seated Quarters were one of the longest running series of U.S. coins. Issued from 1838 to 1891, the series saw several minor design changes. For the first two years the obverse (front) design did not included drapery from liberties elbow, later in 1840 the drapery was added. In 1853 arrows were added at the date (to make the coins heavier!) These were removed in 1856. In 1866 the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. In 1873 the arrows were again added to the date where the remained for just one more year. Production for the Seated Quarter ceased in 1891.

Four mints were used to strike these, they were Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco and Carson City. The same basic design was also used on Half Dimes, Dimes, Twenty Cent pieces, Half Dollars and Dollars. While there are many easily collectible dates of Seated Quarters, rarities do exist (unfortunately none are included in the group offered here). The 1870-CC and 1873-CC with arrows are quite rare.

  • Ordered 3 and received 3 different dates...The coins were in Fine condition exactly as advertised...Overall I was very pleased with the coins. MP is my only internet coin store!
  • OK 1876 circulated coin. The obverse was nice, but the reverse was somewhat dark with two darker streaks across it thus making it hard to see the details. I probably should have returned it for a better one, since I am almost always very pleased with any coin ordered from MP. So the one you get will probably be a lot nicer. But it was a solid Fine example as advertised and thus the "very good" rating.
  • The coin I purchased was the last one of the fine condition seated quarters. I had no idea what year it would end up being. I am very pleased as it is an excellent example of a seated quarter and is almost in very fine condition. By the way, the date is 1857.
  • The seated quarter i received does grade fine but it has a scratch on the front by the flag which is very visible
