This short lived series designed by, James Barton Longacre, began in 1849 with what is considered the Type 1 issue featuring a Close or Open Wreath on the reverse. All issues from 1850-1854, feature the Close Wreath. The same obverse design of Liberty's Head was also used on the $20 Gold Piece from 1849-1866. The Type 1 Gold coin was replaced by the Type 2 Indian Princess Gold Coin issue that was slightly larger.
Dates on these random year coins will be of our choosing and are determined by our current inventory on hand.
